Full Day Évora & Azeitão

Exiting from Lisbon, this tour will take you through the beautiful countryside roads of Alentejo up to Évora, the capital city of the region. Évora has a history of more than two thousand years old. The Romans built the  Ebora Liberalitas Julia and we can still see here their elegant temple. The Moors left their influence in the maze of narrow streets and courtyards of the old   city. Medieval vestiges can still be seen, such as the huge Romanesque-Gothic cathedral or the Church of S. Francis with its  spooky Bone Chapel. Although Évora is not a city that stopped in time, it developed itself without losing its character, and that is one of the reasons why Unesco classified it as a World Heritage Site.
After an impressive historical morning, it is time to taste the typical food of the region and to delight yourself with a meal in one of the traditional restaurants of the city.
The afternoon is reserved for a totally different experience: a visit to the wine cellar José Maria da Fonseca, one of the oldest and most prestigious wine companies in Portugal. Founded in 1834, JMF sells wines in all continents, namely the Moscatel and the Periquita wines. Our tour ends with a visit to the cellars and a wine tasting of some of the wines made by JMF.
